THE wet weather did not dampen the spirits of Brownies and Rainbows in Dolgellau.

The youngsters took took part in a litter-pick on the Marian area of the town, despite rainy weather on Remembrance Day.

The event, which followed the annual service at the town's war memorial, was hailed "a great success."

Ten bags of rubbish and three boxes of recycling were collected.

One of the event organisers, Gwynedd Councillor and Meirionnydd’s ambassador for Girl Guiding Linda Morgan, said: “The children got quite wet but were determined to continue with the event, and were rewarded for their efforts with refreshments at the Pavilion.

“I would like to thank June Jones for organising the event, the Rainbows, Brownies, Ranger, Leaders and family and friends for taking part.

"Also thanks go to student Ryan Evans from Coleg Meirion Dwyfor for helping.

"It is so nice to see people involved with community work. The children were brilliant and were a credit to their parents and the Guide leaders.”

The equipment for the Brownies’ litter-pick was supplied by Gwynedd Council’s Tidy Towns scheme.

It's officer Jonathan Neale, said: “It’s great to see community pride in action from our youngest residents on Remembrance Day.

"Tidy Towns is happy to support the Brownies, Rainbows and Guides with their impressive efforts to clean up what is after all other people’s mess.”

Gwynedd Council’s Highways and Municipal Cabinet Member Gareth Wyn Griffith, said: “Thank you to Dolgellau’s Brownies and Rainbows and their helpers for a great effort on the Marian in poor weather on Remembrance Day.”
