NEW technology which helps people with dementia be more independent is being trialled for the first time at a Caernarfon garden centre.
The Fron Goch centre is launching the 'Wandersafe' scheme, along with other dementia initiatives, on Tuesday, November 27.
The Wandersafe scheme allows people living with dementia to walk round the garden centre by themselves, whilst giving carers the reassurance they are safe.
A lanyard with a sensor is given to the person with dementia and the carer receives a pager. If the person with the sensor walks towards the door the pager sounds notifying the carer.
Fron Goch managing director Justin Williams said: “It’s important to us that customers feel safe during visits.”
Arloesi Gwynedd Wledig launches the scheme at 4pm, and will monitor it for a year. Arloesi Gwynedd Wledig is one of social enterprise Menter Môn's (Porthmadog office) LEADER programmes.
