COR Meibion Colwyn, has returned from a tour of Ypres in Belgium to pay their respects to the fallen of the First World War.

The male voice choir was privileged to sing as part of the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres, where representatives of the choir also laid wreaths on behalf of the choir and the Bay of Colwyn Town Council.

A spokesman for the choir said: “We also visited Artillery Wood Cemetery where a short service of remembrance, recitation, song and laying of a wreath was held at the grave of Hedd Wyn the bard from Trawsfynydd (Ellis Humphrey Evans) who was killed on July 31 1917, at the age of 30. At the nearby Welsh Memorial at Habegos we laid a wreath was laid.”

The choir held two concerts in Ypres during the five day tour, including one in St Martin’s Cathedral, and in the historic St George’s Memorial Church.
