THE Ynys Môn 2019 committee has confirmed that 15 male and female teams from 10 islands across the globe will descend upon Anglesey next summer to contest the 2019 Inter Games tournament.

History has already been made with the tournament as Anglesey is set to host an Inter Games football tournament for the very first time.

However, there is also a significant milestone in terms of the competitors this time around as St Helena, a tropical island in the South Atlantic Ocean, will see its men’s football team make a debut in the competition.

There will be ten teams contesting the men’s tournament and five competing in the women’s equivalent, with the draw for groups in the men’s tournament to be conducted this Sunday (in partnership with the Football Association of Wales).

Ynys Môn, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Shetland, Western Isles, Orkney, St Helena and Hitra will compete in the men's category and Ynys Môn, Isle of Man, Jersey, Western Isles and Hitra in the women's.

Ynys Môn 2019 Project Manager Gareth Parry expressed his delight as the competitors for next summer’s tournament were confirmed.

"To have fifteen teams coming to Ynys Môn next June to compete at the 2019 Inter Games tournament is fantastic and a great endorsement for this competition," he said.

"We’re very proud to be making history by having our island hosting the football for the first time ever, but even more so to have an extra bit of history tied to the competition, with St Helena making their way to Ynys Môn next summer to make a competitive debut.

"Things are shaping up very nicely and we’re looking forward to putting on a fabulous tournament next summer with teams from all over the world attending."
