AN ANGLESEY man has painted a Remembrance Day mural at his local football team's home ground in memory of the 101 people from his Town who lost their lives during the First World War.

Amlwch Town FC club coach David Jones created a touching tribute at Lon Bach which features silhouette figures, including those of a soldier and a dog, alongside colourful poppies.

The striking mural also includes the phrase "Er cof am yr 101 enaid dewr (In memory of the 101 brave souls)."

David, who likes to paint in his spare time, says he was "honoured" to be chosen to create the piece.

"I like painting but it's normally on a smaller scale so I've never been so nervous doing one in my life," he said.

"Knowing how important it was to everyone put some pressure on me but I feel honoured to have been chosen to paint it.

"I'm very proud to be part of Amlwch Town FC and the town as a whole too as we always help each other out no matter what."

The mural, which took around four days to complete, was originally an idea put forward by Amlwch Town FC committee member Tony Fitzmaurice.

David then had free rein in terms of the design and since the piece was officially unveiled on Monday, November 12, it has received high praise from members of the club and beyond.

Amlwch Town FC chairman Idwal Hughes said: "David was out as early as 6am in the rain preparing his mural.

"We're lucky to have someone as talented as him involved with the club. His hard work has certainly paid off as the mural looks brilliant."
