THE TEACHER of a young disabled girl from Anglesey is fundraising to help buy her a new wheelchair.

Paula Schleising-Chaplin is taking part in a charity horse ride in aid of Hanna Winiarska, 17, who she has home schooled for a number of years.

Paula and some friends will be riding from her home in Llanfaethlu to Hanna’s in Llandegfan - a 25 mile trip - on the first weekend of December.

Hanna moved to the village from Poland with her family six years ago and it was Paula who taught both her and sister Julia to speak English.

After being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, Hanna had regular check-ups at a hospital in Liverpool. During a routine procedure in 2017, her heart stopped beating for an hour and although doctors revived her, the incident left her unable to walk or talk.

Paula says she is looking to raise a total of £3,000 to help Hanna’s family, as well as some money for the Brain Trust charity.

“They family has had their world turned upside down so we want to do everything we can to help them,” Paula said.

"I have known them ever since they moved here so I definitely feel a connection. We have received overwhelming support for our cause so far, raising £1000 via our online campaign."

Hanna's parents, Bogusia and Wladek, say that her two visits a week to the Bangor Gymnastics Club in Llandygai have helped her progress greatly and the support she is receiving has been "brilliant".
