THREE siblings from Rhyl are raising money for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) charity by running a mile this weekend.

Wyn Edwards, the father of Thomas, 8, Elis, 7 and Lucie, 5, Edwards - says the trio are determined to take on the Fun Run at Sunday's Conwy Half Marathon event as they want to "help injured soldiers."

Originally from Llangoed o Anglesey, Wyn, 35, is a veteran who was medically discharged from the First Battalion Welsh Guards after slipping three discs in his spine.

Now running his own business, Wyn Edwards Electrical, he previously served six and a half years with the forces before his injury and says that SSAFA is a charity he still keeps very close to his heart.

"The SSAFA charity helped me when I asked for it and I will forever be grateful to them," he said.

"I ran the London Marathon this year for them and I will also be running the Half Marathon in aid of SSAFA this coming Sunday.

"The charity helped me in my time of need and the children know this. That is why they've now decided to raise money for the cause.

"This is all to raise money and awareness for SSAFA who do amazing work with the Armed Forces community."

Elis, Lucie and Thomas have so far raised £115 via online donations, a sum which dad Wyn expects to see rise "significantly" following their Mile Fun Run event.

Mum Amy has been out running with the three of them in the evenings to make sure they're prepared for their big day.

"They are super, super excited to be taking part in the race," Wyn added.

"Our youngest son Sam (two years old), will be cheering them on from the crowds too.

"This is the first fundraising event of many to come, we have loads of future runs planned as a family."

Wyn himself will be taking part in the Conwy Half Marathon event to raise even further money for SSAFA.

Elis, Thomas and Lucie will be carrying a collection bucket around with them during the event. To donate to their cause online, visit: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/r22wyn

Organised by Run Wales, the Conwy Half Marathon event saw over 3,000 runners take part last year.

Routes run along the road adjacent to the Conwy River and proceed towards Deganwy beach and West Shore Llandudno towards Llandudno Pier, then around the Great Orme and back.
