Pupils of Ysgol Llanystumdwy have recently been planting 200 daffodil bulbs on land belonging to the Lloyd George Museum as part of a new and exciting community project.

The children had great fun planting the Daffodil bulbs in the company of Aled Hughes from BBC Radio Cymru, and also had the chance to take part in Aled’s Children in Need campaign to collect 10,000 ‘pawen lawen’ or high 5s.

The aim of the project is to try and secure extra ways of generating income to help fund the Museum. The Museum land offers a varied environment that is suitable to grow various fruits, vegetables and flowers, which will then be sold in a ‘pop up’ shop.

The project will allow the Museum to safely experiment without the need for a lot of resources in order to generate extra income, and that in the spirit of the interests and the wishes of Lloyd George who was interested in gardening, agriculture and bee keeping.

Councillor Craig ab Iago, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member who leads on heritage, said: “I would like to thank the Bryncir Garden Centre, who provided 300 Daffodil bulbs for the project, Ysgol Llanystumdwy, Mancoed VM and everybody else who co-operated to make this new and exciting community project possible.

“The children are looking forward to picking the Daffodil flowers for spring 2019, and I hope the venture goes from strength to strength.”

The next ‘pop up’ will be on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30, 2019, just before Mothering Sunday.
