A 66-year-old Anglesey pensioner was refused bail when he appeared in court on child porn charges.
Hugh Gwynfor Edwards of Amlwch Road, Benllech, pleaded guilty to possessing indecent and prohibited photographs and images of a child, breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and breaking a suspended sentence imposed by magistrates at Caernarfon last January. He was sent for sentence to Caernarfon crown court next month.
Diane Williams, prosecuting at a special weekend court at Llandudno, said the charges arose from when officers paid a routine visit to his home. However material from three additional electronic devices were now being examined by a high-tech unit.
She said girls aged three to 16 had been depicted and Edwards had said he was “interested in whether kids can keep a secret”. During a police interview he’d said “it looked like two young people having fun”.
Bethan Williams, defending, seeking bail, said Edwards anticipated a prison sentence.
Court chairman Hugh Morgan said the magistrates did not have sufficient powers to deal with the case. Bail was refused because of the risk of further offences and the seriousness of the charges. He added: “You have shown a total disregard for court orders.”
