A DRUNKEN thug accused of smashing his head into a police sergeant’s face was jailed for 34 weeks on Friday.

Sgt Arwyn Jones was concussed, his glasses broken, had a split lip and needed dental treatment, Caernarfon crown court heard.

Adam Clarke, 25, of Llangoed, Anglesey, was told by Judge Timothy Petts :”You have a considerable record of violence. There’s a worrying pattern of violence being committed by you when you are under the influence of drink. You must break the cycle.”

Judge Petts warned him :”If you carry on behaving like this you will spend longer and longer in prison.” He said it was a “vicious” headbutt.

Clarke admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.

Prosecuting barrister Gareth Roberts said last month police had been called to a Bangor pub because of two men fighting. They saw bare-chested Clarke, who had an injury to his head, talking to a doorman near a kebab shop.

Mr Roberts said Clarke became aggressive. He was arrested and handcuffed.

But the defendant headbutted the officer. Incapacitant spray was used on the thug.

Richard Edwards, defending, said Clarke recognised when sober that his actions were unacceptable. He didn’t realise he was throwing his head at a police officer.

Clarke had also been headbutted “with some considerable force” earlier that night and this led to police being called to the scene.

Mr Edwards added that Clarke, who had worked, was “genuinely remorseful.”
