A drunken driver who swerved from side to side for ten miles then hit a stationary car at Pwllheli has been jailed for six months.
Stuart McGrory, aged 57, of Bedworth in Warwickshire, had stopped at a layby to drink spiced rum and his alcohol count was nearly four times the limit.
He said he'd fallen asleep before the crash and pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol.
Judge Rhys Rowlands said at Caernarfon crown court that although McGrory recognised he had a long-term alcohol problem and was taking steps to deal with it the message had to go out that such driving would almost inevitably mean prison. No one had been hurt but this was by sheer good fortune.
He was banned from the wheel for 27 months and then will have to take an extended re-test.
