A PURPLE glow is bathing the Menai Strait all the way from Caernarfon Castle as far as Beaumaris Castle this week.
Pictured are some of the buildings lit up in the Bangor area, as part of efforts to turn the Strait purple, part of the Rotary International End Polio Now Campaign. Each night, until tomorrow (Friday) at dusk, key buildings along the Strait, are illuminated with purple floodlights,
Plas Menai water sports school, the Gazelle Hotel, the Bulkeley Hotel, Bangor University Arts Building, Bangor Cathedral and Bangor Pier are some of the buildings taking part. Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who in 2009 received one of Bangor University’s first honorary degrees, is also backing the campaign, after suffering from polio as a child. On World Polio Day, yesterday, Wednesday, October 24, mayors of Bangor, Caernarfon and Beaumaris attended Rotary stands in their towns. On Wednesday, Pontio in Bangor turned purple and projected a video ABOUT the campaign on its outside walls.
