A WELSH chapel dating back to the 1830's is up for sale in an online auction with SDL Auctions, in partnership with agents Dafydd Hardy.

The Capel Bethmaaca in Glasinfryn, near Bango, was first built in 1836 during the reign of William IV – Queen Victoria’s uncle – and was later rebuilt in both 1866 and 1895.

The chapel, once used by the Congregationalists of Glasinfryn, could be converted to residential use subject to planning permission and has a starting price of £40,000 in the online auction, which ends on Friday, October 26.

Jason Lee, national sales manager at SDL Auctions, said: “This is an exciting opportunity to purchase a detached Welsh chapel located in a picturesque village.

"Many parts of this historical building enjoy views towards the Snowdonia mountain range, and there is enormous conversion potential as a family home or perhaps two separate dwellings, subject to planning permission."

Internally, the chapel is well preserved and retains all the original fittings, charm and character, with the twin-mirrored entrance halls both exhibiting stained glass doors and lamps.

Capel Bethmaaca measures around 10.4m x 14m with a separate vestry room of around 9.2m x 8m, and outside there is a wide, gated forecourt with a pathway leading to the side of the building.

The chapel is based in the centre of the small rural village of Glasinfryn, around two miles from Bangor and within easy reach of the nearby Snowdonia National Park.

The village stands just off the A55 expressway, which also provides easy access to the beautiful northern Welsh coastline and the Isle of Anglesey.

Nia Hadfield, assistant manager at Dafydd Hardy, added: "We are delighted to be working with SDL Auctions to offer this beautiful old church for sale.

"As you would expect from a chapel, the internal space is generous to say the least and the vestry to the rear adds even more space, giving the prospective purchaser plenty of conversion options, subject to planning consent.”
