A WALKER and his dog were rescued by the RNLI at Black Rock Sands, Gwynedd.

At 8.30am yesterday, volunteers from Criccieth’s RNLI Lifeboat Station were called to rescue the pair who had been cut off by an incoming tide.

In a statement on the RNLI website, a spokesman said: "The station promptly launched their inshore rescue boat from Criccieth beach and headed towards the walker’s location on a sandbank, which is notorious for catching walkers unaware of incoming tides.

"Once on-scene, the volunteer crew placed the walker aboard the lifeboat, along with his dog, and transferred both ashore safely.

"The area around the casualty had quickly become marooned by an incoming spring tide while deep, fast flowing channels had developed between the walker and the shore line.

"This rescue represented the 10th life saved by Criccieth’s RNLI Station this year."
