A SPECIAL PACT has helped to tackle anti-social behaviour.

Local PCSOs have recently been working with the Isle of Anglesey County Council and local residents to engage with youths after an increase in anti-social behaviour in Llanfaes and Menai Bridge.

PCSO Misha Geurtjens said: “There have been a number of calls by residents and the community over the last few months with concerns about vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

"Therefore, we have made a special effort to work with the young people in the area to reduce this behaviour and allow the residents to feel safe in their community.”

In Llanfaes, residents decided they wanted to get the local community centre up and running again to give the young people something to do in their free time.

As part of the project, young people took part in clean up days and other activities in partnership with the county council and Llais Ni.

PACT funding was awarded to the community centre to allow them to decide what types of groups and activities they wanted to set up.

In Menai Bridge, the youths who caused the anti-social behaviour attended awareness sessions and took part in litter picking to clear up their mess in a high visible fashion, so that it could be seen by the community.

PACT supported PCSO Geurtjens with funding that supported these clean-up and litter pick days, together with a fun day of go-karting.

These initiatives have engaged with local youths to build their respect for the community and North Wales Police, resulting in a reduction in incidents of criminal damage and anti-social behaviour.

PACT project manager Dave Evans said: “We are delighted that this initiative has had such a beneficial impact on the two communities and gave local young people the opportunity to do some positive work with PCSO Geurtjens.”
