THIS year’s Anglesey Show served up something different as north Wales’ strongest men came to the Mona Showground.

The North Wales Strongest Man competitors put on a show of strength for the thousands of guests who visited throughout the two-day event.

On Tuesday, Llyr Hughes took first prize in the over 100kg category, with Gareth Pugh finishing as runner-up and Royston Roberts taking third place.

Ian Chaffey was crowned the winner in the under 100kg category, with Llyr Jones and Nick Jordan finishing in second and third place respectively.

“It was my first ever strongman competition, I signed up for it four months ago and really enjoyed the training with everyone at The PUB Gym that helped lead to victory on the day,” Ian Chaffey said.

“I couldn’t have achieved it without the help and support of the guys including Kel, Nic, Terry & Llyr who were also my competitors on the day. I look forward to defending my title next year.”

Spectators watched on as competitors took on dead lifts, lorry pulls and so much more throughout the two-day event.

Rob Harman, owner of Hardcore Fitness Centre, added: "We would just like to thank all competitors, volunteers and Anglesey show officials following a hugely successful and popular first North Wales Strongman event.

"It was an amazing day giving new and experienced athletes the opportunity to test their strength and endurance in front of a great crowd. We are already excited about bringing this back bigger next year."
