A BIRD bonkers family from Anglesey say they had the "best alarm clock in the world" to get them to the Anglesey Show on time.

The Howard family, from Llanfaethlu, put their pet cockerel in a box and kept him in their house the night before they were heading to the show on Tuesday

However, the next morning, their feathered friend woke up the whole family with a ear splitting "cock-a-doodle doo," at the crack of dawn to let them know it was time to go!

The family, who confess they are "bird mad" were showing their cockerel, ducks and chickens at the show and have won a clutch of awards.

Their Brahma best light feather large, and one of their silkies, a bantam soft light feather, won two best in show awards and were placed on Champions' Row.

The family, who were "egg-static," said it was a labour of love keeping the birds and they have so many they have even lost count.

Dad Paul, said: "We are bird mad in our family, though it is just a hobby, we don't keep them for money, We reckon we have probably got the best alarm clock in the world!"

"Our cockerel was crowing so loud this morning, we all leapt out of bed! There was no way we could have stayed asleep, he is so loud, he has quite a voice on him when he gets going.

Mum Kathryn added: "It was as if he was telling us all, come on you lot, it is time to get up, it's time to go to the show!"

Son Ian, 13, added "We love birds in fact, we have got so many, we don't know many, we just have LOTS!

"We haven't really given them any names. But they are all pets. My brother had quite a shock when the cockerel went off this morning, he nearly fell out of bed!"

Adam, 17, said: "We definitely didn't need to buy an alarm clock to get us here on time."
