A CHARITY GROUP has been set up in Caernarfon with the aim of raising money for and awareness of prostate cancer.

The 'Trons Dy Dad' group has been set up by local councillors who have organised a sponsored walk that will set off from the Maes at 11am on September 2.

Cllr. Dilwyn Lloyd, who helped set up the group, said: "The idea for doing this came about after we had been trying to arrange an event for Caernarfon as well as raising awareness of Prostate Cancer among residents."

With the support of the ProstateWales charity, the group has managed to organise a the two tier walk along the Aber Foreshore and back.

There will also be several stalls placed on the Maes during the event, as well as live music, a barbecue and a football match featuring famous faces.

"I am hoping that the people of Caernarfon and the surrounding areas will come and support this worthwhile charity," Cllr Lloyd added.

"The ‘Race for life’ run has been well established in Caernarfon now for many years and it’s hoped that this walk could be the start of us men joining in raising funds for good causes too.

"We are also organising a series of smaller events, such as quizzes, in the lead up to the main event."

Those with an interest in participating in the event should do so by registering through the facebook page or by contacting Cllr Jason Wayne Parry on 07900594279 or Peter Garlick on 07799777035.
