STUDENTS from five high schools in Japan recently had the opportunity to go on a sightseeing tour of Bangor.

The pupls, from schools based around the Tokyo area, celebrated the end of their two week visit with a drama based on the timeline of Bangor.

The group also attended a ceremony at St. John's Church alongside former Mayors Mrs Jean Forsyth and Cllr John Martin.

It was the fourteenth year the schools had arranged to visit north Wales as part of Bangor's Trinity Foundation Programme.

Director of the Institute of Japanese Studies within the programme, Kumi Sunada, said: "The students have not only learned English, but also a few words of Welsh. One said his favourite word was 'Diolch'.

"They all seem to have had a very happy experience thanks to the kindness of their host families and the people of north Wales in general."
