A POPULAR Anglesey horticultural show has confirmed its date and announced a new sponsor.

The 66th annual Llaingoch and District Horticultural Show will take place on Saturday, August 18.

This year's event is being held at the Holyhead High School and being supported by housebuilder Anwyl Homes, as well as existing sponsors including Stena Line ferries, other local businesses and individuals.

Open to members and non-members, the annual summer show features more than 200 classes for flowers, garden produce, handicrafts and cookery.

The show attracts novices and professional show-goers alike and draws entrants and visitors from across Anglesey and beyond including Ireland, Cheshire and even Scandinavia.

The standard of all entries at the show is usually high, with winners’ trophies and medals much coveted by entrants.

As in previous years, MP for Holyhead Albert Owen will officially present the prizes.

Anwyl Homes is currently building houses at Tyddyn Bach, its development on South Stack Road in Llaingoch.

Housing managing director at Anwyl Homes, Mathew Anwyl, said: "We are delighted to sponsor the show for the first time this year. It is an exceptional event with a long history and heritage and we are pleased to be involved.

"I wish all those exhibiting at the show the very best of luck and look forward to seeing the results of their efforts in August."

Show organiser and honorary secretary Ann Parry added: "We are grateful to Anwyl Homes for its support of this year’s show, and to Stena Line, and my other local businesses and individuals, for their continued support over the years. Without our sponsors the show would not take place, and I am pleased to report that it is getting bigger and better every year."
