A CAERNARFON man was jailed for historic sexual offences carried out against a "young and vulnerable girl."

Jason Mark Hughes, 43, was sent to prison for three and a half years by Mold Crown Court on Wednesday, June 6.

He was sentenced for two counts of sexual assault on a girl aged under 10, committed over 20 years ago in the south Gwynedd area.

Investigating officer DC Cefyn Roberts at Caernarfon CID said: “This was an appalling abuse of trust by a family friend on a very young and vulnerable girl.

"I would like to acknowledge the victim for her courage and strength in reporting the assaults and her determination and support throughout the investigation.

"I welcome today’s sentence and hope it provides his victim, and the community, with reassurance that North Wales Police will robustly pursue offenders and ensure they face justice regardless of when the offences took place."
