A BOAT capable of 110 miles an hour is scheduled to take part on the biggest and fastest power boat race ever on the Menai Straits this weekend.

The two day event will be held at Caernarfon starting at noon on Saturday.

It was to have been held at Holyhead, but the storm damage to its marina earlier this year forced the change of venue.

Scott Williams of the Offshore Circuit Racing Drivers Association said: “This will be the largest powerboat race series in the UK. In races elsewhere we have had an average of 35 boats entering each event. They reach speeds up to 80mph.

“This will be the biggest powerboat race ever attempted on the Menai Straits. We also have a guest international powerboat racer attending with his 42 feet long world offshore racing boat which reaches speeds in excess of 110mph.”
