TWO Anglesey men have been jailed for the Anglesey Post Office robbery.

Zak Craig Corbett, aged 43, and Thomas Oliver Haywood, aged 36, were sentenced Caernarfon Crown Court on Monday, March 22.

They received12 years and eight years four months imprisonment respectively for an armed robbery committed in Rhosybol, Anglesey in November 2017.

Det Inspector Gerwyn Thomas at Caernarfon CID said: "Corbett and Haywood, armed with a crowbar, carried out an appalling act of violence at a village post office in rural Anglesey which has left the victims and close knit community understandably traumatised.

"The postmaster was attacked but had the courage to stand up to the offenders and with assistance of brave members of the public they managed to detain Haywood until my uniformed colleagues, who were quickly on the scene, arrived to arrest him.

"I’d publicly like to acknowledge their bravery and the assistance we had from members of the local community.

"Corbett fled the scene and area but thanks to an alert PCSO in Sheffield he too was eventually arrested in December.

"Those few in our communities who use weapons and violence must understand there will be a consequence to their actions, we will relentlessly pursue them regardless of where they try and flee and they will go to prison. There is #NoHidingPlace.

"I welcome the sentence and hope it will provide the public with reassurance and makes our communities safer. The region is a safer place with them both behind bars."
