A BUS driver from Bangor is up for a national prize having been shortlisted for Arriva Wales' "Busketeer" award.

Claire Bywater has been recognised for the award which gives praise to drivers that always go that extra mile to show customers how much they care.

48-year-old Claire, who is originally from York, has been working for Arriva for the past 17 years.

She says that the aspect she enjoys most about being a bus driver having a good camaraderie between her regular passengers and herself.

Claire says that she is "delighted" to have been nominated for the award, but now hopes to gone step further and win the competition.

"I have spent 30 years in the industry and 17 of those have included working for Arriva.

"To win the overall award would be my career's high point."

Claire's favourite route to drive along is the 5 or 5C, which both go between Bangor to Llandudno.

When asked how she though her passengers would describe her, she said: “Chatty, approachable, smiley and sometimes a little bit bonkers.”

Voting for the award closes on Sunday, March 4.

The last five regional winners will then battle it out to become the ultimate Bus Driver of the Year at Arriva's glamorous ‘Made A Difference’ Awards gala dinner in April.
