SUBSTANCES believed to be Class A drugs, cash and mobile phones were seized when two young men from Liverpool were arrested in Bangor on Friday.

The pair, aged 18 and 16, were both arrested on possession of Class A controlled drugs and possession with intent to supply same, in the area near the Upper Garth Road known locally as 'Roman Camp.'

The16-year-old was additionally arrested for possession of an offensive weapon. They were later 'released under investigation.'

The latest arrests were part of Operation Rattle, the police's ongoing initiative designed to keep up the pressure on those concerned in the supply of controlled drugs in the region.

Inspector Doug Hughes, at Bangor Police Station, said: "During the early afternoon of Friday, February 2, and as part of our intelligence led policing, officers from the Priority Crime Team arrested two young men from Liverpool in an area known locally as ‘Roman Camp’ in the Upper Garth Road area of Bangor.

"Both were arrested for possession of Class A controlled drugs and possession with intent to supply same. The 16 year old was additionally arrested for being in possession of an offensive weapon. Cash, mobile phones and substances believed to be Class A drugs were also seized. Following interview both were released under investigation.

“Our commitment to rid our communities of those who possess and supply controlled drugs is our priority and in line with ‘Operation Scorpion,’ directly targeting serious and organised crime. Friday’s arrests under Operation Rattle are a continuation of that process and we are determined to keep our communities safe. For those involved in drugs supply there is #No Hiding Place. It is vitally important we listen to concerns and where necessary take proportionate action.”
