A SCREENING in Conwy this weekend will start the buildup to a month-long North Wales film festival.

The Coastline Film festival 2016, Organised for the second year by Tape Community Music and Film in Old Colwyn, runs throughout the month of November with screenings along the North Wales coast from Prestatyn to Holyhead.

The activities will begin with a screening of the 1971 classic family film Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory this Sunday (October 23) at 2pm in Capel Tabernacl in Conwy.

Organisers are also partnering with a greater number of other organisations including BFI, Rialto Film Club, Mind, Connect Buddies and more to bring a diverse and eclectic programme of shorts and feature films for all.

Steve Swindon, CEO of TAPE Community Music and Film, said: “It’s going to be great – It’s a much bigger event this year over a much bigger area.

”We didn’t have much for toddlers last year but this year we have the free ‘Read Explore Learn’ activities in a number of libraries which encourage literacy.”

Back for a second year is the Chapel of Horror, based at Conwy’s Capel Tabernacle, and new to 2016 is the Coastline Comedy Cinema Club at Rhyl Town Hall.

There are also events in libraries across the county of Conwy for toddlers and younger children, screenings in the Empire Cinema at Holyhead and at Pontio, Bangor University’s brand new Arts and Innovation Centre.

The final weekend of the festival will feature Conwy’s own Annie Atkins presenting a workshop, question and answers as well as a screening of the Grand Budapest Hotel at St George’s Hotel in Llandudno.

For the closing day of the festival organisers will present three premieres: A welsh premiere of Joe Stephenson’s drama Chicken and two TAPE premieres, In the Shadow of the Ferris Wheel - a documentary made by local young people about the Chernobyl disaster and the work of a local charity, followed by TAPE’s first feature film production, British Winters.

There will also be a screening of classic horror movie The Wicker Man accompanied by limited edition scratch n’ sniff cards at Capel Tabernacl in Conwy at 7pm on Sunday, October 30.

To buy tickets, the full programme of screenings and a list of venues can be found on the festival website: coastlinefilmfestival.co.uk and booking early is advisable.
