A TOURISM boss from Llandudno has returned from the Olympics after working with an international team of anti-doping specialists.

Jim Jones, managing director of North Wales Tourism, was one of only four UK applicants chosen to spend eight days managing an anti-doping team from around the world and overseeing all anti-doping processes at Rio’s Aquatic Stadium during the Olympics.

Mr Jones, who has performed the role at two previous Olympic events, said he was very pleased with the haul of medals Team GB managed to win and hopes to be able to work at either the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang or the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

He said: “It was a completely different experience to London. They worked extremely hard to showcase the best of Brazil and their facilities were superb.

“The swimming events were electric and when Brazil were doing well the noise was incredible. In my own time whenever I could I’d go out and try to support Welsh athletes and represent North Wales.

“Team GB came second in the medals table and Welsh athletes were very much a part of that. It’s our sporting heroes and teams that put Wales on the map.

“We got to watch the beach volleyball and went to quite a few of the boxing events. We supported Jade Jones from Flintshire in the Taekwondo when she won her second gold.”
