Miley Cyrus stepped in for husband Liam Hemsworth after he was too ill to attend the premiere of his latest film.

The Australian actor, who missed the Grammys on Sunday due to illness, is still recovering, Cyrus said, though she did not specify what the issue was.

Cyrus wore a red, floor-length Valentino gown while attending the Isn’t It Romantic premiere on Monday and said she was “proud to represent him and his incredible work”.

The pop star wrote on Twitter: “So proud of my hunky hubby @liamhemsworth & his newest movie #IsntItRomantic He unfortunately wasn’t able to attend due to health reasons… but he is recovering and taking this time to rest / heal.

“It’s hard for entertainers to put themselves before the project but this time it was crucial …. I am proud to represent him and his incredible work. So happy to see him shining in this comedy! He is the funniest person I know , and the world now gets to see the Liam I wake up to every day…. luckiest.”

Hemsworth, who married Cyrus at an intimate ceremony in December, apologised for his absence on Instagram, “blaming pretty annoying health stuff”.

He added: “Lucky I have the best girl in the world to represent for me! Thanks for the support babe! I hope everyone enjoys the movie! It’s a perfect Valentine’s Day flick so if ya ain’t got nothin better to do then go see it! Love to all!”

Hemsworth, 29, and Cyrus, 26, have been dating off-and-on since meeting on the set of The Last Song in 2010.

They tied the knot in December. Satirical fantasy film Isn’t It Romantic also stars Australian actress Rebel Wilson.

It is due to stream on Netflix in the UK from February 28.
