WELSH vocalist Aled Jones is set to perform in St Asaph as part of a 2021 tour of UK cathedrals.

Mr Jones, made famous after singing the winter classic Walking in the Air aged just 15-years-old, will visit St Asaph Cathedral on May 8 during his Aled Live tour. It will follow the release of his latest album Blessings on November 6, featuring a selection of uplifting hymns, texts and scriptures set to music.

The album explores different world faiths and beliefs with a number of star guest appearances including Dame Judi Dench, Sami Yusuf and Susan Boyle.

Mr Jones has released a single from the album, Loving Kindness which explores Eastern religions, their texts and the meaning behind them.

“Loving Kindness is the main ethos for the whole of the new album and the powerful message of this piece is that we are all the same,” the 49-year-old said on Twitter.

“The song incorporates Eastern Hindu and Buddhist texts of peace, love and kindness. During these strange and unsteady times, we all need to show and receive love and kindness.”

The tour will also see Mr Jones perform at Bangor Cathedral, as well as a host of other venues including Manchester Monastery, Durham Cathedral and Bristol Cathedral.

Mr Jones will be another high-profile performance for St Asaph Cathedral, following the success of the North Wales International Music Festival this summer which was held virtually for the first time in its 49-year history.

It proved a big hit with audiences who tuned in from as far afield as the USA and Canada, along with a host of European countries such as Holland, Germany and Spain.
