ENSEMBLE Cymru is embarking on its most ambitious chamber music tour to date
To close its 15th anniversary season, Wales’ leading chamber music group will features top-class musicians, music from Handel to Debussy and a new commission by Anglesey composer Gareth Glyn.
Bringing music from Wales, across Wales, the Ensemble will perform works by Aberdyfi-based composer Rhian Samuel, while Gareth Glyn has written a piece especially for the tour.
Debussy’s Dances for Harp and String Quartet will also be performed alongside a rarely heard nonet by Arnold Bax.
The concert reaches its finale with Handel’s Harp Concerto.
Three composers will also showcase their music in pre-concert events.
Gareth Churchill, Rhian Samuel and Guto Pryderi Puw, will have their music performed during ‘Composers Spotlight’ events.
Ensemble Cymru’s artistic director, Peryn Clement-Evans, said: “We’re thrilled to be closing this season, reaffirming our mission to promote Wales’ vibrant music from its past and present.
"I don’t think I could have imagined a more exciting and joyous way of drawing this special anniversary year for the Ensemble to a close.”
See Ensemble Cymru, Anniversary Finale at the Ucheldre Centre, Holyhead on May 12 at 7.30pm and Pontio, Bangor, on May 13.
A Composers’ Spotlight – the music of Guto Pryderi Puw will take place at 2pm, with the main concert getting under way at 3pm.
