IT started with possible expulsion from the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance, and ended with Prestatyn Sports securing the Division Two title.

It was another outstanding campaign for the ambitious side, who proved their doubters wrong with a consistent campaign that saw them lose just once in 28 league outings.

The management team of Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves have assembled a quality squad of players from the region who are all pulling in the same direction, and there is no telling how far this team can go if they continue to develop at their current rate.

Sports made their Gronant base a fortress and secured a 100 per cent win record from their home games, something that will be extremely crucial to any success they have in the third tier next term.

Significant improvements to the ground are ongoing following the farce surrounding their JD Welsh Cup situation with Caersws, and the committee and volunteers also deserve an enormous amount of credit for the sacrifices they have made throughout the campaign.

The onus is very much on a strong team ethos at Sports, but there have been a large number of telling individual contributions that have given them a strong platform from which to build throughout their outstanding season.

Prolific striker Ian Griffiths has been at the top of his game and is still one of the most lethal finishers operating anywhere in the region, and his 28 goals went a long way to them lifting the crown.

Skipper Shane Middleman has been a commanding figure both on-and-off the pitch for the club, and his ability to lead and organise are sure to aide their cause considerably as they go in search of even more success in Division One next time around.

Sam McDougall and Tom Court are two more set to have very promising futures, while the experienced pair of Robbie and Ian Dunn have made a massive impact from the bench in critical situations which have also helped considerably.

The impressive Michael Jones is another to keep an eye on as they prepare to embark on the third tier, and although they will need to strengthen during their summer their experience of performing well against top sides such as Llandyrnog United in cup competitions this season can give them plenty of cause for encouragement going forward.

Next season with undoubtedly be the toughest challenge the club has ever faced, but if their history with adversity has taught us anything it is that they will be more than up for the fight.
