PRESTATYN Sports finally lifted the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two title following their final game home victory over Gaerwen.

Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves’ side said goodbye to the fourth tier on a memorable day in front of a large crowd at their Gronant base, and they signed off in style with a 3-1 success.

Despite the eventual result it was the visitors who began the better of the two sides and they took a shock lead early on following a period of sustained pressure.

This provoked a strong response from the home side, who levelled things up soon after courtesy of the prolific Ian Griffiths, who produced another moment of genuine quality to unleash a ferocious effort into the top corner.

The hosts got their noses in front for the first time when Griffiths pounced for his second of the afternoon with another composed finished, and they wrapped up the points in the closing stages when substitute Robbie Dunn finished off a fine team move to round off the scoring.

Their 23rd victory in 28 league outings saw Sports finish the season on 72 points and eight clear of nearest rivals Bodedern Athletic.

They secured a 100 per cent win record on home soil which was a huge contributing factor in their overall success, scored 117 goals and conceding just 30.

Skipper Shane Middleman was the big winner at the club’s presentation evening following their final fixture, which saw him pick up the Players’ Player of the Year and Committee Player of the Season thanks to his outstanding effort.
