CONWY Borough closed the gap on Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One leaders Llangefni Town with a 2-0 success at Greenfield.

The Tangerines negotiated a tricky away tie with minimal fuss to secure another crucial three points in their pursuit of the title, and Gareth Thomas’ men are now three points behind Cefni with two games in hand.

A tense opening to proceedings brought little in the way of goalmouth action, but the visitors finally broke the deadlock a minute before the hour mark when prolific striker Corrig McGonigle found space and finished well.

Chances came and went for both sides following the opener, but it was McGonigle that settled matters on 84 minutes when he converted another opportunity to take his tally to an outstanding 40 league goals this season.

Nantlle Vale ended a disappointing recent run of results with a 2-0 home triumph over Trearddur Bay.

Daniel Bell got the home side off to a flyer with a fine effort on 26 minutes, before Phil Warrington popped up on 72 to wrap up the triumph.

A dramatic end to the Division Two clash between Meliden and Penmaenmawr Phoenix saw three goals in the final five minutes in a 2-2 stalemate.

Meliden opened the scoring on home soil when Liam Smith converted on the hour mark, but Peter Jones and Danile Williams looked to have given the away side a surprise win with quick-fire efforts on 85 and 88.

There was still time for further drama, which arrived in stoppage time when Mark Price rescued a share of the spoils for the hosts.

Elsewhere, a brace from Bryn Humphries did the majority of the damage as Blaenau Amateurs secured an impressive 5-2 triumph at Mochdre Sports.
