CONWY Borough boosted their Lock Stock Welsh Alliance title hopes with a comfortable 4-1 win at Llandyrnog United.

The Tangerines are aiming for promotion after securing double cup success in the last fortnight, and their 11th away triumph of the season leaves them six points behind Llangefni Town with three games in hand.

Gareth Thomas’ side opened the scoring on 21 minutes when Matty Hughes headed past Stuart Griffiths from a corner, and they doubled their advantage on 31 when the prolific Corrig McGonigle netted from the penalty spot.

The visitors wasted no time in making their presence felt after the restart, and sealed the points on 46 minutes when Cory Williams took advantage of some hesitant defending to fire home.

In-form playmaker Tom Creamer rounded off the Boro scoring with a well-taken effort on 53 minutes, and although Billy Holmes’ spot kick got a consolation for United, the promotion hopefuls saw out the game in comfortable fashion to secure the triumph.

Llanrwst United missed a chance to stake their claim on the crown after falling to a 2-0 defeat at Llangefni Town.

Matthew Jones put the hosts’ in front on 31 minutes, and the Rwsters had a goal controversially ruled out before Iwan Jones sealed the tie on 88.

Llandudno Albion’s championship hopes also look bleak after they were beaten 3-1 at Llanrug United, with Connor Davies finding the target for Paul Cheung’s side on 72 minutes after they had conceded three in the first period.

There was better fortune for Mochdre Sports, who advanced to the Take Stock Van Hire Cup third round thanks to a 4-1 success at Meliden.

A seven minute hat-trick from Jordan Phillips did the majority of the damage late on, with Scott Roberts also on target for the visitors.
