PRESTATYN Sports hitman Ian Griffiths continued his scintillating form to give his side a 4-1 Mawddach Challenge Cup third round win over Llannefydd.

The prolific forward netted his third hat-trick in as many games to enable the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two title favourites to advance, and he wasted no time in opening his account with a well-taken effort on six minutes.

Tom McDougall doubled their advantage after a sustained spell of possession on 12 minutes, before Griffiths notched his second of the tie to add a third on 19.

Veteran midfielder Owain Roberts got the away side back into the game on 29 minutes, but Sports finally sealed their passage to the next round a minute from time, and it was Griffiths who found the net again for his ninth goal in three games.

There was no such luck for St Asaph City, who exited the competition after a 4-1 loss at Llandudno Albion.

Efforts from Harry Roberts and Dave Maddock put the hosts two-up within the opening 11 minutes, before Joel Lloyd converted from the spot to add to their tally a minute after the interval.

Jordan Owen gave the Saints a glimmer of hope when he finished well on 70 minutes, but their hopes were dashed soon after when Allan Davies restored Albion’s cushion and sent Paul Cheung’s side through.

Meliden were unable to cause a stir at the Division Two summit as they were downed 3-1 at title chasing Bodedern Athletic.

The home side started well and had a comfortable lead at the break thanks to strikes from Shaun Jenkins and Gareth Torr, and Stephen Whittaker trebled their advantage on 64 minutes before Matthew Griffiths netted the visitors’ consolation.
