CONWY Borough are riding on the crest of a wave after sealing double cup success in the last week, but their biggest challenge is still to come.

The Tangerines secure both the FAW Trophy and Cookson Cup after a pair of impressive performances, but Gareth Thomas’ side must switch their focus quickly to what was their main objective at the start of the campaign.

That, of course, is promotion to the Huws Gray Alliance.

With arguably the most talented squad in the division on their day, Boro are in pole position given their games in hand on current leaders Llangefni Town in a run-in that is sure to have plenty of twists and turns yet to come.

With Llandudno Albion, Llanrwst United and Llanrug United also harbouring hopes of securing the crown, there can be no room for error Thomas is fortunate to have a wealth of experience at this level who have been in this situation before, with a number of the squad part of the Glantraeth side that secured the title last season.

This will stand them in good stead this time around, and in Corrig McGonigle they have one of the deadliest finishers outside of the top two tiers who already has 34 league goals to his name.

Strike partner Dean Seager came in at just the right time and although he has missed a short time with injuries, his recent efforts can give the Boro faithful plenty of encouragement that he will have a huge part to play before now and the end of the campaign.

Another who has boosted the line-up after a lay-off is Cory Williams, who has turned out for the likes of Colwyn Bay and Caernarfon Town in the past and is capable of winning a match on his own at any given opportunity.

Playmaker Tom Creamer is a local player who has really come into his own in recent weeks, and his ability to create and workrate have been huge contributing factors in their success, while Sion and Brendun Hogan have also caught the eye during their dominant run of recent form.

Much has been said about the budget available at Y Morfa in relation to the rest of the league, but this does not necessarily guarantee trophies at the end of the season, so Thomas should be commended for putting together a squad with not only talent, but the right characteristics to blend together and come up with ways of winning games.

The remainder of the season will not be easy by any stretch of the imagination, and as they have been all season they are there to be shot at, but as long as the Tangerines keep their eyes on the prize then it could be enough to secure them a dream treble and seal an instant return to the second tier.
