PRESTATYN Sports took another huge step towards securing the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two title with a pair of victories over the past week.

The unbeaten promotion hopefuls took maximum points from their two fixtures in what is an extremely busy period for the club, and they began with an impressive 4-2 victory at derby rivals Meliden on Wednesday.

Goals from Kris Owen and Mike Jones put the visitors two-up within the opening 16 minutes, and Owen extended their advantage with his second of the evening after the break on 47.

The home side pulled one back shortly after when Liam Smith hit the target on 49 minutes with a sensational strike, but this joy proved to be short lived as Owen rounded off a sensational individual performance with another well-taken effort on 71 to secure his hat-trick.

Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves’ side followed up this triumph with a resounding 7-1 home thrashing of Pentraeth on Saturday, but despite the eventual result it was Traeth who gain the upper hand early on when Jack Diamond gave them a shock lead.

The title contenders responded well and levelled matters on 19 minutes courtesy of a Sam McDougall effort, and they took the lead thanks to a quick-fire double from the prolific Ian Griffiths.

This opened the floodgates as Sports ran riot for the remainder of the second period with Tom Court, Tom McDougall and Ian Dunn all getting themselves on the scoresheet and Griffiths hitting another to seal his treble.

Another good week sees Sports move to within 11 points of leaders Glan Conwy with seven games in hand.
