LLANGEFNI Town lost further ground in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One title race after a 3-2 reverse at Llandyrnog United.
Chris Roberts’ side were undone by a sensational second half display from the home side, which means Cefni picked up just one point from two fixtures over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Despite the eventual result it was the away side who drew first blood on 24 minutes when James Saxon unleashed a stunning effort past Stuart Griffiths to put the visitors in front.
The second half was a completely different affair with Ryan Harden’s men reaping the rewards of a much-improved performance, and they managed to level matters on 50 minutes when the prolific Mark Roberts continued his impressive recent run of form with another eye-catching finish.
Things got even better for the hosts immediately following the restart, and once again it was Roberts who did the damage after using his pace to latch on to a through ball before stroking home on 51 minutes.
Gradually the away side dusted themselves off and restored parity to a pulsating contest when a right-foot effort from Jack Williams found its way into the net.
There was still time for further drama late on, and United sealed a memorable victory on 86 minutes when good work from Dion Jones presented a chance to Les Brophy, who made no mistake with a side-footed volley to condemn Cefni to just their fourth loss in 22 contests, which leaves them three points behind leaders Conwy Borough having played the same amount of games.
