PRESTATYN Sports took another huge step towards the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two title with a resounding 4-1 victory over title rivals Bodedern Athletic.

The home side got off to a positive start and netted the opener after 14 minutes when the prolific Ian Griffiths’ fine header sent them into the break a goal to the good, and Diego Alvarado was on hands to double their tally after the interval on the hour mark.

Griffiths was proving to be too much to handle for the visiting back-line and he scored his second of the afternoon with another well-taken effort on 65 minutes, and he capped off a sensational individual performance with his hat-trick on 67 following another free-flowing attacking move.

Aden Clarke found the net for a consolation strike on 70 minutes, but Sports saw out the remainder of the game in comfortable fashion to keep their promotion challenge on track.

It promises to be a gruelling run-in for Mark Hughes and John Hargreaves’ men, who face a daunting 12 league games between now and the end of the season, and the in-form side are also still involved in cup competitions.

Meliden were unable to pick up a win on their travels despite scoring six times in their thrilling 7-6 reverse at Blaenau Amt.

Liam Smith fired in a second half hat-trick in the defeat, with Matthew Griffiths (2) and Ashley New also on target.

Division One side St Asaph City rescued a share of the spoils late on in their 1-1 draw at Nantlle Vale.

A Cai Parker strike on 23 minutes looked to have condemned the Saints to defeat, but they showed their fighting qualities and managed to secure a point for their efforts thanks to a Mike Corbett finish five minutes from time.
