BETHESDA turned in a superb defensive display to come away with an 18-5 home triumph over Ruthin.

The WRU National League Division One North side out-fought their opponents during a tight affair, with Gethin Long scoring the only points of the half for either side when he despatched a penalty for the hosts.

After the break saw the impressive Long extend their advantage with a stunning solo run for a touch down, and the same player added a further two points with the conversion.

The home side withstood some serious pressure from the Blues following the score, but a series of high-impact tackles kept them at bay and they went further clear courtesy of a Carwyn Williams drop goal.

Ruthin finally got themselves on the scoreboard when Josh Wilson crossed the white wash for an unconverted try, but Long was once again on hand to decide the contest with another blistering try to take his tally for the afternoon to two and seal their success.
