MENAI Bridge booked their place in the Gwynedd Cup semi-final with a hard-fought 20-17 win at Bala Seconds.

The home side got off to a flyer and went ahead early on when a powerful run from Alwyn Jones resulted in an unconverted try, but Bridge answered with a score of their own soon after which came courtesy of the ultra-consistent Dave Williams.

A series of infringements just before the interval presented a chance to Dion McGrath, and his assured boot made no mistake with the penalty to give them a three-point cushion at the half.

After the break saw the visitors extended their advantage when some quick-thinking from McGrath saw him go over, and the talented back dusted himself off to slot over the extras.

Bridge were now fully in the ascendancy and they notched another score when Sam Williams finished a sweeping team move in the corner, but a series of substitutions from the hosts saw them claw their way back into the tie late on.

Iwan Morris and Emrys Roberts both crossed the line in quick succession, one of which was converted by Llion Jones, and despite being put under intense goal-line pressure in the closing stages the away side held on for the victory, booking their final four berth against Holyhead.
