BANGOR secured a place in the North Wales Intermediate Plate final with a convincing 41-14 success at Llangollen.

The WRU National League Division Two North side got off to a flyer when scrum-half Dan Jones crossed the white wash after just five minutes after strong play from the visiting pack.

This was swiftly followed by two more scores in quick succession from Gruff Tudur and Tom Yardley as the forwards further demonstrated their prowess with a pair of surging drives which led to the tries.

Using the downhill slope to their advantage throughout the first period, the visitors capitalised on another neat passage of play when Calvin Williams went over, and they finished the half strongly which brought another score courtesy of Sion Davies. Cameron Owen was successful with three conversions from six opportunities.

The hosts finally start to impose themselves on the tie and scored their first try of the game shortly before the break, and after the restart they touched down again after a bright spell on 50 minutes.

Bangor’s rearguard crucially held firm in the face of intense pressure midway through the half, and Owen sealed a berth in the final with a penalty and a try which he also converted to complete the rout.

All that stands between them and silverware is Newtown in the showcase later on in the coming weeks.
