RGC’s Principality Premiership title hopes are now over after a dramatic 28-26 loss at Llandovery.

The Gogs got off to a sensational start and opened the scoring after just five minutes when Alex Schwartz rounded off a sweeping team move to cross the white wash. Jacob Botica drilled over the extras.

This provoked a strong response from the home side, who reduced the arrears soon after thanks to a well-struck penalty from Jack Maynard, but this joy proved to be short lived as scrum-half Schwartz produced some quick thinking to go over for his second score of the afternoon to extend their advantage.

Back came the hosts with a consistent period of pressure following the setback, and they were rewarded for their improved play when Rhodri Jones powered over shortly before the break, and Maynard converted to make it a two-point game at the interval.

Wales U20 international Sam Wainwright was shown a yellow card shortly after the restart to pur the Gogs on the back foot, and Maynard put his side in front for the first time with another penalty on 44 minutes.

Llan were now fully in the ascendancy and they managed to increase their cushion on 52 minutes when Jack Williams burst through the visiting rearguard to touch down. Maynard continued his fine day with the boot by adding the extras.

Jones’ men responded impressively and got themselves back into the contest thanks to a superb spell of phases, something which brought another try on 58 minutes courtesy of Jordan Scott, and things got even better when replacement Will Bryan gave them the advantage yet again immediately following the restart. Danny Cross nailed both conversion attempts.

Tim grey was the next RGC player to be sent to the sin bin at a critical stage of the clash, and the Drovers took full advantage of their numerical superiority when Dafydd Hughes went over on 70 minutes, but the conversion was missed to keep the visitors one ahead.

There was still time for further drama, with the hosts clinching the victory with the last kick of the game through a Maynard penalty.
