BANGOR City Men's Hockey team gained a valuable point as they held league leaders Triton 2nds to a 2-2 draw at the Brailsford Centre pitch on Saturday.

City got off to a good start and after Tats Greenhalgh forced a good save early on, the home side took the lead on 12 minutes from Oli Flemimg's sweeping finish, following a superb run and assist from midfielder Jack Brookes.

Triton's attackers also looked dangerous in possession, and when they had a goalbound shot blocked on the line by Keith Proudlove's foot, the umpire blew for a penalty flick.

The visitors despatched the shot to level the scores on 20 minutes.

Momentum remained with the away side at the end of the half, and they edged in front on 31 minutes with a close range finish.

The second half saw Bangor defend bravely for large parts as the table-toppers looked to extend their lead.

Tudur Trenholme saved a number of shots as Bangor survived an early spell of pressure. City then exerted some pressure of their own, leading to chances for Jack Brookes and Tom Hughes.

That pressure paid off on 56 minutes when Bangor levelled the scores thanks to a touch of fortune, when Ash Hardaker's delivery was deflected towards the back post for young Patrick Wright to prod home with 14 minutes left.

Triton went in pursuit of a winner in the closing stages and forced Bangor to defend for their lives.

Numerous tackles from Paul McCallum and Andrzej Griffith helped the cause while keeper Tremholme made some further crucial saves, as Bangor managed to hang on for a hard-earned share of the spoils.

Next weekend will be a busy one for City, hosting Mossley Hill 2nds on Saturday (2.15 pushback), before playing their re-scheduled match away to Macclesfield 2nds on Sunday.
