BANGOR City Men's hockey team began 2018 with a 3-1 home win over Timperley 4's.

After a bright start to the match, City went in front early on when Simon 'Tats' Greenhalgh converted a short corner.

Bangor doubled their advantage shortly after through Graham Lorrimer after some good interplay in midfield.

However, the Altrincham-based visitors posed a threat of their own in attack and struck back before the break to reduce the arrears.

Lorrimer found the net for the second time in the second half to put City back in a more comfortable position.

Timperley forced some good saves from keeper Tudur Trenholme as they looked for a way back in, but Bangor held out for a much-needed victory.

City will aim to continue their good start to January when they visit NWHL Division 5 South bottom side Oxton next Saturday.
