HOLYHEAD Town left it late to boost their Gwynedd League title chances with a 3-1 success over Llanystumdwy.

The Harbourmen got their noses in front after a tight first half on 64 minutes, and it was the prolific Asa Thomas who was on hand to tuck away an opportunity in fine style.

This provoked a strong response from the visitors, who levelled matters soon after when Ricky Lovall diverted the ball into his own net on 69 minutes, but the home side responded well and regained their advantage on 74 when Tom Hadley found the target.

They wrapped up the points after 82 minutes when Thomas despatched his second of the game, and the win leaves them four points clear of Bontnewydd and three clear of last weekend’s opponents.

In the only other league contest of the day, a brace from Llion Roberts was the catalyst behind Llangoed’s 3-1 triumph at Talysarn Celts.

Bro Goronwy booked their place in the Snowdonia Fire Protection Bob Owen Cup with a narrow 2-1 win at Waunfawr.

An early Jack Thomas effort for the visitors was cancelled out by Meurig Parry on the stroke of half-time, but Sam Reagan netted their crucial second on 79 minutes to reach the showcase.

They will play Nefyn United for a chance of silverware, who came through their semi-final thanks to a 4-2 victory over Beaumaris Town.

A two-goal salvo from Tristan Parry did the majority of the damage, with Mark Jones and Ifan Jones also on target.

Gwalchmai progressed to the Meditel Cup third round as goals from Craig Evans, Mark Griffiths and Cory Sinnott secured a 3-2 come-from-behind success at Menai Bridge Tigers.
