HOLYHEAD Town’s Gwynedd League title fate is now out of their hands following a shock 3-2 defeat at Gwalchmai.

The Harbourmen are still top of the standings despite their Tuesday night reverse, but in-form Bontnewydd are now one point behind them with a game in hand ahead of the run-in.

Despite the eventual result it was the away side that started the brighter and they went ahead after just two minutes when Tom Hadley rounded off an impressive attack to open the scoring.

This provoked a strong response for the host, who got back on level terms soon after thanks to a fine effort from Craig Evans from an extended period of possession.

The prolific Asa Thomas continued his fine recent goalscoring exploits to put the visitors back in front with another fine finish on 33 minutes, but they were pegged back once again after the break when Cory Sinnott made it all square on 73 heading into the closing stages.

There was still time for further drama in stoppage time, and it was the outstanding Sinnott who was on hand to blow the championship race wide open with his second of the evening with virtually the last action of a pulsating game.

Bont have the chance to take full advantage and move to the summit tonight (Wednesday) when they travel to Llanystumdwy.
