BANGOR City Academy U16s have won the Dutch 2018 Easter Open South Tournament.

The Citizens youngsters defeated some very strong teams from across Europe, on their way to the final, which they defeated England's Personal Best Academy 2-1.

The Under 16’s travelled to Eindhoven with a depleted squad and three regulars only just returning from injury and knew that they would be up against it in this tough competition.

The Tournament was a group-based competition of 40 minute games played over two days.

Six groups of four teams played on the first day to determine the two finals groups on the second day, with the six group winners being joined by the two best runner up teams.

The winners of those two groups would then meet in the final with the two runners up meeting for a third/fourth place play off.

City's under 16's first defeated Sutton United 2-0 before beating Dutch hosts De Willy’s 10-0 and drawing 1-1 with Rushden & Diamonds to finish top of their group.

They then beat Luton Town 2-1, George Spencer Academy 1-0 and St. Neots 2-1 on day two to progress to the final, where they met Norfolk-based Personal Best Academy (PBA) and came away as eventual champions.

A spokesperson for Bangor City FC said: "A big thank you must go to the coaches for their dedication and commitment and also to the parents for their support.

"Finally, we must also say thank you to all the sponsors and donations who, without their contributions the trip would not have been possible thanks from all the team."
