BONTNEWYDD boosted their hopes of securing the Gwynedd League title with an impressive 6-1 win at Beaumaris Town.

The visitors got off to a strong start and went ahead after just four minutes courtesy of a Rhys Roberts effort, but they were pegged back on 22 when Matty James levelled matters from the penalty spot.

This spurred the visitors into life and they dominated proceedings following the setback, with Roberts helping himself to a second of the afternoon on 40 minutes to give them a cushion at the break.

After the interval saw the same player round off a fantastic individual display with his hat-trick on 47 minutes to double their advantage, and things got even better soon after when Gareth Edwards pounced for a fourth on 52.

Town threw caution to the wind in an attempt to get back into the contest late on and were undone by two quick breaks that resulted in Ian Pleming and Aled Steele converting opportunities on 83 and 87 minutes to complete the rout.

Talysarn Celts also picked up a huge victory in their battle for survival with a 4-2 success at relegation rivals Llanllyfni.

Tomos Usher and Gerwyn Williams put the away side two-up within the opening half hour, before Dave Parry reduced the arrears with a neat finish on 40 minutes.

The second half brought with it further Celts’ joy with Meilir Povey and Glyn Thomas finding the target, and despite a Callum Evans penalty for the hosts late on it was not enough to prevent defeat.
