OVER one thousand children on Anglesey could see their chances of playing football become restricted unless new officials can be found to help run their league.

The Anglesey Junior Football League has been providing football to youngsters within various age groups on the island since its establishment in 1974.

Now, organisers fear that the division could be in jeopardy as they struggle to find new secretary's to help replace the current ones who are set to resign at the end of the season.

The roles of general secretary and fixture secretary are currently open to applicants as the league looks for individuals to step in and help organise fixtures and meetings and keep records.

Current fixtures secretary Graham Hughes had handed in his resignation last year, but as nobody could be found to replace him, he decided to stay on for another season.

"It is very difficult to get people involved in the administration side of the game and this league is no exception." Mr Hughes explained.

"The league has been without a general secretary for seven years now and during those seasons, the job has been done by the Chairman of the League, Stephen Smith.

"At the end of last season, Mr Smith and I had both handed in our resignations, but as no replacements could be found we decided to stay on board for 2017/18."

Mr Hughes says that he is concerned by the fact that nobody has applied for the two roles as of yet and fears that this could have a major impact on the league next season.

"We do understand that clubs have problems in recruiting members to work on their own committee's but if we do not fill these positions then what will happen to the league?," he said.

"We were lucky in getting a new Registration Secretary, Treasurer and Safeguarding Officer last year and these people are doing excellent jobs, but we need more staff.

"We have well over a 1000 players participating in the Juniors League each season.

"The young people of Anglesey enjoy participating in a sport they love every weekend and it would be a true tragedy if these opportunities were to come to an end."
